About Melanie Ransom, RMT
Melanie graduated with a diploma from the Massage Therapy program at the International Academy of Massage 2008 where she had the opportunity to serve a wide range of populations in Ottawa. Melanie performs treatment oriented massage therapy; builds effective treatment plans to best address individual needs and recommends self-care such as stretching and remedial exercise. Melanie’s strengths include excellent communication, listening and interpersonal skills and, of course, much appreciated hands.
Melanie strongly believes in the power of therapeutic massage and how it can impact a person’s life in more ways than we may fully understand. Her intent is to educate and encourage people to integrate massage therapy to create and maintain long-term health and well-being for the patient.
Melanie has a great passion in providing individual care to a variety of both acute and chronic pain suffers with conditions that range from repetitive strain injuries, muscular tension, headaches, tendinitis, sports injury and postural dysfunction. Melanie also holds a Bachelor’s in Health Science from Thompson River’s University (BC) and is an ardent supporter of animals and the environment.
What is an RMT
An RMT is a registered massage therapist. In Ontario, an RMT must graduate from a training program of a minimum of 2,200 hours (equivalent to 3 years in a college program). Following their education, they must pass a written exam and on-site clinical exam (OSCE), conducted by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO). The CMTO is the body that regulates massage therapy in this province. All RMTs have sound training in anatomy, physiology, pathology, treatment protocols, massage technique and basic research skills. There is a certain similarity and compatability with physiotherapy, athletic therapy, and other regulated manual therapies.
